The Museums experience includes the Volterra Card. A special season ticket that allows entry to the most important museums in the city. The Etruscan Museum, the Pinacoteca, the Alabaster Ecomuseum, the Palazzo dei Priori, the Etruscan Acropolis, the Roman Cistern and the Roman Theater.
The Etruscan Museum
it is one of the oldest public museums in Europe. Inside there are many Etruscan finds. Among which we mention the Aviletite stele, the Shadow of the Evening and a collection of over 600 cinerary urns.
The Pinacoteca
it is a destination of interest in the academic world and for art lovers. Inside stands the Deposition of Rosso Fiorentino. Great work, made famous by Gabriele D’Annunzio in his Maybe that yes, maybe that no.
The Palazzo dei Priori
it is the oldest municipal building in Tuscany. Its construction dates back to 1208. Inside you can admire the frescoes in the Council Room. The painting Le Nozze di Cana by Donato Mascagni and a Crucifix and Saints by Pier Francesco Fiorentino.
The Etruscan Acropolis
it rises in the highest part of the city. In Etruscan times there were two temples, both facing east. Pools and streams. The numerous archaeological finds demonstrate the majesty of the Etruscan civilization.
The Alabaster Ecomuseum
tells the Volterrana tradition of working this stone. It is an environmental museum that leads the visitor on a journey. From the quarry of the stone to its processing and marketing.
The Roman Cistern
it is an imposing work excavated in the earth. 21 meters long, 14 meters wide and 10 meters high. The cistern collected rainwater that flowed into it from pipes placed on the top of the walls.
The Roman theater
it is a majestic monument dated 13 AD. Its construction was financed by the Etruscan family from Volterra of the Caecina family. The extraordinary remains of the ancient buildings can all be visited from the inside.
