A hotel concept originating from Italy, the Albergo Diffuso is the experience of being hosted by an entire town steeped in ancient history. The Albergo Diffuso is set up as its own community, with a network of unique rooms weaving throughout the town and located within a short walk from a central point that houses the guest reception and restaurant.
Each room is renovated with modern luxuries while its overall structure is thoughtfully preserved to not only maintain but elevate the integrity and history of the building.
The result is an ambiance unique to each stay yet in complete harmony with the natural land and history of the town. Roughly translated, ‘Albergo Diffuso’ is a ‘diffused hotel' or interspersed stay experience.
The Albergo Diffuso differs from traditional hotels in that it is rich in experiences curated for its guests. Each wine tour, historical walk or cooking class serves as more than just a glimpse into the lives of locals - it offers an immersion into traditions that have held a community together for hundreds of years and generations of families.

OUR MISSION
Sustainable principle
The main objective of Albergo Diffuso Volterra is to create a model of sustainable hospitality and sustainable food, oriented to the future, good for man and the planet. We believe that through the principle of replacing resources, humanity can create everything it needs without causing problems to the planet.
Food without damage
Our restaurants are 100% Plant Based, with products that are as organic and biodynamic as possible selected in the small local farms. Our restaurants are “without damage”, in terms of animal exploitation and in terms of pollution due to intensive farming practices. For cleaning we use non-toxic products obtained without the use of animal derivatives. Laundry detergents, dishwashers, window cleaning, flooring, sanitary ware are all natural and environmentally sustainable.
We reduce transport and waste
The Life Bistrot and Domus Lucumoni restaurants use beverage supply systems through dedicated plugs, water, wine and beer are supplied without waste of bottles. Our Bistro works by “food by weight”, service system is managed with smart cards. This allows customers to eat according to their appetite avoid food waste. We reduce the use of plastic materials and every kind of product obtained from processes that use fossil resources.
We encourage sustainable tourism
We promote visits to organic and biodynamic farms and wine companies that use natural and sustainable agricultural cultivation methods, which improve the structure of the territory and increase the fertility of the land. Through our experiences we promote one or more day tours with visits to historical and cultural places, tours in the Tuscan archipelago, experiences in natural spas, on a sailing boat, by bike and e-bike and in the many natural places close to us. For travel we promote 100% electric cars, mainly Tesla.
We preserve history
Our hotel is an open-air museum. In 2001 we chose to start a private archaeological excavation campaign to discover the ancient history that slowly appeared. We have gradually discovered an Etruscan road, an Etruscan well, a Roman road and a medieval pavement. At the end of the excavations we chose to install a transparent crystal floor to preserve and allow everyone the view of these heritages. Today we are custodians of these very important findings. The hotel, restaurants, houses and apartments have been restored using mainly environmentally friendly products and materials such as locally sourced stones, plasters and natural paints.
